New York is the centre of American art, with some of the biggest and best museums in the world. The city is an ideal destination for students of Art & Design with large art collections of the most varied styles from paintings to sculpture, photography to innovative design on offer.

 

Guggenheim Museum Workshop

The Guggenheim Museum in New York is famously known not only as an extraordinary architectural icon, but also as a significantly important art museum. This museum constantly exhibits new collections from a range of different artists, as well as its renowned permanent collection, which ranges from Impressionism through to contemporary art.  Groups can experience an amazing tour, tailor made to your specific educational needs!

Your tour and workshop program lasts for 2 ½ hours.  Groups will be taken on a 75 minute tour of the gallery followed by a 75 minute hands-on art project workshop delivered in the Guggenheim’s Art studio. 

Workshops are based on current exhibitions running at the Museum.

Examples of workshops which generally use mediums such as tempera or acrylic paint, clay, and found materials.

Painter's Choices
Inspired by works in our galleries students will create their own abstract acrylic paintings on canvas. Conversations will focus on varied approaches that different artists’ use, or even one artist's development over time.

Drawing Discoveries
Inspired by the art exhibited in our galleries and quotes by the artists on view, students will create a series of drawings exploring a range of approaches, both experimental and observational.

Sculpture Studio
This workshop provides the opportunity for students to explore the three-dimensional qualities of clay and integrate key concepts from the exhibitions. The tour and workshop will focus on abstraction as well as how it may be combined with figuration.

Designing Structures
Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright's architecture, students will learn to construct realistic models of imaginary spaces which could be used as liveable shelters. Students will develop strategies to plan and problem solve during this process.

Animation Studio Workshop

During your visit to New York, Film and Media students have the opportunity to take part in a one hour workshop revolving around the creation of an animated cartoon in a working studio. The workshop will focus on the writing, storyboarding, digital animation creation, voice-overs and music for the show, allowing students a taste of all the aspects involved. The workshop is delivered by industry professionals, giving students an insight into future career opportunities. Some of your students will be able to actually do voice over’s for the cartoon made!

Madam Tussauds Workshop – Studio

With its roots in Paris in 1770, Madam Tussauds is an internationally renowned wax museum located in London, Paris and New York.  The works held at Madame Tussauds no longer merely reflect the important political figures of our times, but also popular celebrities. The museum provides for a wonderfully fun visit, while the workshops provide educational enrichment, this must not be missed when in New York!

  • Insight into the artistic skill and technique used to create these masterpieces and a look into how the wax figures are maintained
  • Students have the chance to participate in a mock sitting with a waxwork
  • Your visit will end with a tour of the World famous Wax Works Museum
