In the heart of the beautiful artisan quarter in Florence, students can attend a hands-on art workshop to help understand and appreciate the art of Florence. Our carefully tailored workshops take place in an artists’ studio where groups will see demonstrations and then produce small works of art related to their chosen theme.

Art History Course in Florence
(Presentation, City Tour & Art museum visit) led by art historian Dr Waldemar H. de Boer
Equity Student Travel would like to introduce Dutch art historian Dr Waldemar H. de Boer, a specialist in Italian Renaissance and Baroque art. With a background as a researcher at the Dutch University Institute for Art History and as a Renaissance art teacher at the Institute at Palazzo Rucellai there is no better way to present this tour other than as a true art history experience!
Bring the history of Renaissance art to life during these fascinating presentations taking place at the Palazzo Guadagni, a stunning 16th century building located in Piazza Santo Spirito. Choose from of one of the following topics:
Renaissance art in Florence - Introduction to the changes and progressions in art during the Renaissance. Artists such as Brunelleschi, Masaccio, Donatello, Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo, will be discussed. Take a guided walk through Florence where students will learn about the Duomo, the Baptistery, Orsanmichele church and Piazza della Signoria ending with a visit to the Uffizi gallery where students will have the opportunity to see a world-class collection of art in one of the oldest and most famous art museums of the Western world.
The daily life of artists and art patrons in Florence & villa and garden culture in the Renaissance - Students will have the opportunity to ask questions about how artists were trained during the Renaissance, how artists’ workshops functioned, what art patrons are, what information contracts between artists and commissioners contained. Attention will also be paid to the architecture and artistic decorations of villas and gardens of rich Florentine families outside the city. Students will visit the Pitti Palace providing them with the opportunity to study the Medici collections, talk about art collecting and art patrons in general and to discuss Renaissance architecture.
